چکیده

In a phenomenon known as translanguaging, multilingual learners draw freely from their repertoires without regard for language boundaries. Although live lives between languages in communities, science education is just beginning to acknowledge the important role of hybrid practices learning. This study investigated one translingual event fourth grade classroom focused on electrical phenomena. Expanding our prior soil sample lab (Lemmi et al., Citation2021) this paper documented eight talk types that took place during exchanges snap circuit activity: (1) making comparisons, (2) asking and answering questions, (3) explaining, (4) giving directions, (5) observations, (6) agreeing, (7) exclaiming, (8) affirming. Our findings suggest students’ participation serves valuable academic social roles should be considered an contribution work has implications ways which teachers can support meaningful learning spaces through use manipulatives explicit invitation practices. It also calls expanding field understanding purpose translanguaging disrupt monolingual norms.

Standard 4—Science Elementary

This is evident, for example, when students: ▲ investigate the interactions of liquids and powders that result in chemical reactions (e.g., vinegar and baking soda) compared to interactions that do not (e.g., water and sugar). ▲ in order to demonstrate the transformation of chemical to electrical energy, construct electrical cells from objects, such as lemons or potatoes, using pennies and alum...

Group Work in Elementary Science 1 Group Work in Elementary Science: Organisational Principles for Classroom Teaching

Group work has been promoted in many countries as a key component of elementary science. However, little guidance is given as to how group work should be organised, and because previous research has seldom been conducted in authentic classrooms, its message is merely indicative. A study is reported, which attempts to address these limitations. Twenty-four classes of ten-to twelve-year-old pupil...

Computer Science in Elementary and Secondary Schools

In this paper we examine the current computer science curriculum in elementary schools and identify its shortcomings. We then presents a new approach to teaching computer science at the elementary school level. We identify five main concepts that are at the heart of computer science, and show on examples from our experience how these concepts may be presented in the primary school classroom. Th...
